“The Latvian Radio Choir” is one of the best chamber-choirs in Europe, which’s high musical culture, intelligence and the unique richness of the sound possibilities from the clarity of crystal drops, orchestral power of colours to the overcome of the human voice borders, has made it a special melodic brand in the map of the World’s choir music. Since 1992 in the Latvian Radio Choir work two conductors- the artistic manager, general conductor of the choir Sigvards Kļava and conductor Kaspars Putniņs.
The choir covers a wide musical repertory, starting from the renaissance to modern most complex scores of composers, creating a new understanding of the possibilities of human’s voice and the organism of the choir, where each cell of the voice has its own personal signature and a specific task. The choir has performed in many prestige music festivals around Europe, the United States and Australia.
The Latvian Radio Choir regularly makes recordings- releases new CDs 4 to 5 times per season, in collaboration with such recording companies as ECM, Hyperion Records, BIS, GB Records, Ondine, Naïve. The choir has also received the prestige Grammy Award in the category “The Best Choir Performance”, it was received for the album “Adam’s Lament” released by ECM and composed by the Estonian composer Arvo Perts, in this album’s recording also participated Sinfonietta Rīga, Vox Clamantis, The Estonian Philharmonic chamber-choir and Tallinn chamber-orchestra, led by the conductor Tenu Kaljuste.
For the creative work, the choir has received the Grand Music Award eight times, it is the highest assessment of professional achievements in the Latvian music industry.
