On the first weekend of August, thousands of music lovers will gather in Haapsalu for Augustibluus, the largest blues festival in the Baltics. During the three day festival, a total of 35 concerts will take place across nine stages, featuring artists from 11 different countries.
The festival’s main stage at Haapsalu Castle will welcome authentic American delta blues and rock’n’roll powerhouse Eric Sardinas, renowned for sharing stages with artists such as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Audiences can also look forward to passionate and high energy performances from some of the most exciting rising stars on the international blues scene, including Sweden’s Anton Hultquist Trio, as well as acclaimed British artists Toby Lee, whom Joe Bonamassa has described as “the future superstar of blues”, and Will Wilde, widely regarded by many blues legends as one of the finest blues harmonica players of his generation.
Traditional blues music will also play a significant role in this year’s programme. Estonia’s highly acclaimed vocal ensemble Estonian Voices will present a special project together with a band, performing music from The Blues Brothers repertoire. The festival has also assembled an outstanding selection of artists representing the swing blues tradition of the 1920s to 1950s. Among them are the Swedish American family ensemble Gunhild Carling & The Carling Family, bringing their vibrant New Orleans style brass sound and infectious dance energy, and Skyler Saufley, a member of the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame, who will introduce Estonian audiences to a traditional guitar driven West Coast and jump blues programme with his band.
Bridging the worlds of traditional and contemporary blues and soul is the Danish Irish band Trainman Blues, recipients of multiple Danish Music Awards, including honours for Best Album and Best Live Performance.
In addition to the main concerts at Haapsalu Castle, numerous performances and events will take place throughout the city, including venues such as the Railway Station, the Promenade Dance Pavilion, the Cultural Centre, Haapsalu Cathedral, as well as various cafés, pubs and terraces. Artists from around the world will perform across the city, and a substantial part of the programme will be free of charge.
Augustibluus is designed for both dedicated music enthusiasts with discerning tastes and visitors simply looking to enjoy the atmosphere of a memorable summer cultural event. The festival also offers a wide range of food and beverage experiences.
Children up to the age of 14 can attend the festival free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
