Sergejs Jēgers was born in 1979, in Jelgava, Latvia. After attending the Riga Music Boarding School, he entered Latvia Academia of Music where Sergejs received Bachelor’s degree in 2003 and Master’s degree in 2005, studying under supervision of professor Karlis Zarins. Sergejs has also enriched his mastership by studying in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland where Professor Andreas Sholl supervised him and in master classes under supervision of Professor Robert Expert in France.
Sergejs Jēgers debuted in Latvian National Opera with the role of the Angel in Rubinstein’s opera Demon in 2004. Since then Sergejs has performed in various musical productions: as Orpheus in Gluck’s opera Orpheus and Euridice; in the role of Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina; in the title role in Handel’s opera Rinaldo.
Now Sergejs mostly participates in performances of vocal instrumental works, which includes Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s cantatas Gloria, Stabat Mater, Cessate, O mai cessate, Nisi Dominus, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bah’s Mark’s Passion, John’s Passion, Purcell’s Ode for St Cecilia’s Day and other pieces. Every year Sergejs Jēgers participates in International Early Music Festival concerts in Latvia together with Riga Cathedral Boy’s Choir and Baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga. Sergejs Jegers has participated in recordings of ten CD’s.
