FunCOOLio is a Latvian instrumental funk/fusion band, formed in Riga in 2007. Band’s members have previous experience in other musical collectives: Dandelion Wine and Russian folk orchestra Sadko. The name FunCOOLio is createds from two words: “funk” (style name) and “Coolio” – R `n` B performer, very popular in 90s. The name of the band and the main idea are to combine the 70s funk music with modern electronic music elements, typically used by DJs and electronic music producers (scratch, loops, etc.). The band builds their compositions using the structure of electronic music as well as the unique Hammond organ sound. FunCOOLio plays original music and brings pleasant listening experience.
FunCOOLio has shared stage with: Deniss Pashkevich & Funk Thereapy (Latvia), Mixmaster AG (Latvija), Very Cool People (Latvia), S&T Syndicate (Latvia), Dandelion Wine (Latvia), Raimonds Macats & RM5 (Latvia), Aivars Hermanis (Remix, Latvia), Roberts Gobzins (Latvia), Raphalel Wressnig (Austria). On August 9th, 2014 the band released debut CD “VOL.1”, containing eleven original instrumental compositions. The first public presentation of the debut CD was at jazz festival “Jazz in The Ruins 2014” (Gliwice, Poland). “VOL.1” was nominated for Latvian music records award Golden Microphone 2014 in the category “Best jazz music album”.
