About

Frailty, a Doom/Death Metal band from Riga, Latvia, was created in 2003. Since then the band has become one of the most recognizable entities of the Latvian heavy music scene. Frailty focuses on making dark, heavy and melancholic music. Lyrically the band is exploring humanities darkest emotions, also offering its interpretations of stories from history, mythology and literature (mainly, but not exclusively, H.P. Lovecraft and his followers). Among Frailty’s musical influences are mostly Doom Metal bands like My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Evoken, Saturnus, Candlemass.
Frailty has released four LP’s and one EP:
Lost Lifeless Lights (2008; LP)
Frailty (2009; EP)
Melpomene (2011; LP)
Ways of the Dead (2017: LP)
Tumši ūdeņi (2020: LP)
Frailty has won several independent Latvian Metal Music awards and twice has been nominated for Zelta Mikrofons (Latvian Grammy equivalent) award:
Frailty EP won the Best Metal Album 2009 award (Independent Latvian Metal Music Awards);
Melpomene won the Best Metal Album 2011 award (Independent Latvian Metal Music Awards) and received a nomination for Zelta Mikrofons as Best Rock/Metal Album of 2011;
Ways of the Dead won Best Metal Album 2017 award (Independent Latvian Metal Music Awards) and received a nomination for Zelta Mikrofons as Best Rock/Metal Album of 2017.
Frailty has played shows and participated in festivals in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Belarus, Finland and Russia.
The latest Frailty’s album Tumši ūdeņi (The Dark Waters) is the first album where the lyrics are written in Latvian language. They deal with dark premonitions, the fear of death, the fear of abandonment by God, interpretations of major historical events, aspects of Latvian mythology, and also of grief and madness. Musically Tumši ūdeņi is made in the best traditions of Doom/Death metal – seven songs of heavy, majestically sad and dark music. Frailty has also released two official videos for the songs Es degu (I Burn) and Tā aiziet gaisma (Thus, the Light Departs) in support of their latest album.
